ALL FROM A DECK OF CARDS

During the North African campaign, a group of soldier boys have been on a long trek, they came to a little town called CASINO. The next morning being Sunday, several of the boys went to church
The sergeant commanded the boys in the church and after the chaplain had read the prayer book,
text was taken up next. The boys who had prayer book brought them out but this boy only had a deck of cards, he spread them out. The sergeant saw the cards and said “boy put away those cards. After the service was over, the sergeant took the young soldier and brought him before the Provost marshal. The Marshal said “why did have you brought this man here? For playing cards in church sir!
And what have you to say for yourself son’ said the Provost Marshal. Much sir, replied the soldier. I hope so, the marshal said, for if not so, I shall punish you more than any man has ever been punished. The soldier said, Sir, I’ve been on the march for about six days with neither a bible nor a prayer book. But I hope to satisfy you sir with the purity of my intention. With that the boy started his story:

I look at ACE, it remind me that there is but one God.
The TWO remind me that the bible is divided into two parts; the Old and New testaments.
When I see the THREE, I remember trinity, the father, the son and the Holy Spirit.
When I see the FOUR, I remember the four evangelists who preached the gospel, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
When I see FIVE, it remind me of five wise virgins and their lamps, there were ten of them, five were wise and were saved, five were foolish and were shut out.
When I see SIX, it reminds me that in six days God made this great heaven and earth.
When I see SEVEN, it reminds me that on the seventh days, God rested from his great work.
When I see EIGHT, it reminds me of the eight righteous people God saved when he destroyed this earth. There was Noah, his wife, their three sons and their wives.
When I see NINE, I think of the lepers our saviors cleansed and nine of them didn’t even thank him. When I see TEN, I think of the ten commandments God handed to Moses on tablet of stone.
When I see the KING, it reminds me there is but one king of heaven, God almighty.
When I see the QUEEN, it reminds me of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as a queen of heaven.
JACK O’ NEIL is the devil.
When I count all those score on the deck of cards, I find 365, the number of days in a year. There are 52 cards; the numbers of weeks in a year, there are 4 suits; the numbers of weeks in a month. There are 12 picture cards; the numbers of months in a year. There are 13 tricks; the number of weeks in a quarter.

So you see sir, my deck of cards serves me as a bible, a prayer book and an almanac.
